I was born in West Bengal, India. I grew up at different places in India while travelling with my parents who were in a transferrable job.
I worked for an year with Tata Consultancy Services at their Overseas Development Center in Mumbai, India. After an year of work experience in the IT industry, I came to USA for higher studies and joined the M.S. programme in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Florida. I did my research work with Dr. Ashok Kumar in the Design and Rapid Prototyping Laboratory. I transferred to Virginia Tech for my post-masters research in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering with Dr. Harry Dankowicz. I started my doctoral work at the Dept. of Biomedical Engineering at the Case Western Reserve University in the year 2004. I am working with Dr. Ronald Triolo at the Cleveland FES Center on Functional Electrical Stimulation assisted walking after spinal cord injury. I am interested in design and development of assistive devices for rehabilitation. One of my areas of interest is robotics for rehabilitation. I am currently exploring cost-effective robotics based interventions for rehabilitation in developing countries, like India.
